Sector movers: Electricity surges, alternative energy lacks power

International Power has given the electricity sector a jolt, revealing that it is in talks with French energy giant GDF Suez about entering a partnership to create a new London listed electricity group. The British power station developer and GDF Suez confirmed they are in preliminary discussions regarding a possible combination of their Energy International Business Areas, outside Europe, and certain assets in the UK and Turkey. But elsewhere in energy, alternative energy is the worst-performing sector despite a rise in the share price of Ceramic Fuel Cells shares which said Australian electricals retailer Harvey Norman will sell its BlueGen gas-to-electricity generators.
